Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where do I begin?
A: You already have! If you are reading this, it means you have already taken actions in searching for someone to work with you. Embarking on a journey of change and healing takes a lot of courage and you have already taken the first step towards change. Your next step could be to contact me for a 20 minutes FREE phone consultation. Call me at 604.719.7555 today.
Q: How do I know if we are a good match?
A: I would be happy to answer any questions over the phone or through email. You would get a sense of whether we would be a good fit during the FREE phone consultation. My primary responsibility is to ensure that you feel safe and comfortable in the therapeutic process. I will be happy to help you find a more suitable counsellor before or during the therapeutic process if it becomes evident that your issue is outside of my expertise or experience.
Q: What is the length of counselling session?
A: The length of the session depends on your needs and schedule. Typically individual (one on one) session is 50 minutes. Couple or family can work within a 50 minute session but often they find it more productive to have 80 minute session because of the complexity of the issues.
Q: How frequent and how long do I need to stay in counselling?
A: The frequency and the numbers of sessions depend on your situation and goals. Typically it takes 4 to 6 weeks for people to recognize they have made progress. It could take several months or years to work on some long‑term goals. It is also possible to take only a few sessions for the client to have significant transformation. In some cases, clients continue to stay in counselling for their personal growth after achieving the initial goals.
Q: What is the fee?
A: Fees vary depending on the type of services.
- Individual, 50 minutes: $120
- Couple or Family, 50 minutes: $125
- Couple or Family, 80 minutes: $180
The fees are in line with the Recommended Fee Schedule provided by BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. Please note that fees are subject to change without notice.
Q: Do you have a sliding scale?
A: Yes. I see a limited number of individuals on a sliding scale basis. These positions are open for college students, those with limited incomes, or clients who are committed to long term counselling. Please contact me so we can discuss this further on what is comfortable for both of us.
